It would, but I've never seen NA jewelry set with real opal. That doens't mean it doesn't exist, just that I've never seen any. They guys doing inlay use the synthetic version early and often though. It comes in flat slabs and can be cut without saying your prayers first.

Ditto Eve-Never seen NA opal either.
Kyratango-As far as NA turquoise on Ebay (or any Antique or Collectible)-the pricing & sold prices on many pieces is completely irrational. It's an auction & prices naturally fluctuate wildly-but it can get ridiculous.Makes it very tough to figure how much to pay,for keeper or resale.
Stuff on Ebay goes for cheaper than i'd steal them for at the Thrift or Flea Mkt.I'm finding it harder to get decent 'comps' on Ebay these days.
Then again,a lot of buyers don't care about authenticity-they just want the 'look'.

Israel was well known for jewelry made from silver and malachite, and used turquoise as well, years ago a lot of their styles resembled NA jewelry. I have a necklace that i thought was NA and turned out to be from Israel.

    LOL.

I have seen lots of old Israeli jewelry with turquoise, I think part of the reason some of it looks NA is because of the stamping method. I know for a time there was a lot of Yemenite inspired jewelry made in Israel. ( way back) If I recall correctly in the 60's they made more 'organic' style ( think Brancusi )

Eilat stone as well as turquoise. We have had the topic of Yemeni style jewellery from Israel come up in the past, largely due to the knowledge of our guru on the subject, Any Jewelry.

There still is.:) Often with Eilat stone.
The style is called Brutalist.;) Israel made some gorgeous Brutalist jewellery, which could easily be mistaken for northern European Brutalist jewellery.

I'm more inclined to mistake Northern European brutalist jewelry for Israeli. It's all in what you're used to seeing. I used to find a lot of Israeli artwork here, when the synagogues still had rummage sales.

Yeah, it looks like there was something there that was worn down, or perhaps rubbed off.

It is. But Northern European silver- and goldsmiths were the first to make that 'blobby' style Brutalist jewellery. The Israelis followed, and did an excellent job.
