I know this is probably a dumb question, but did you check the scanner bed? I've done that!

 

unless you tossed it in a baggie for safe keeping.....it's still in the pile of things that you scanned at the same time....

Something very similar recently happened to me! I was going through old photos on my phone, having a purge. I came across some pics of a desirable Madame Alexander doll I acquired a couple years ago and decided to post them on an MA FB group to find out more about her. I received enthusiastic replies and good info... and an offer of $400! Of course I said yes... and then, despite hours of looking through my over-packed basement storage area, I just couldn't locate her. I'm sure the poor potential buyer thinks I'm nuts... she made it fairly clear that she wasn't very happy.
I know that darn doll is here somewhere...

I'm sure this is not your situation......just saying though......I have a blue plastic document wallet..with papers...for my eyes only...... 4 ever it was in my night table....one day...years ago...... xmas or New Years ..I decided to move it along with some gold & silver heirloom stuff , to my most secret hiding place..

I lost track of the papers....looked where only I would put them......even there....and found nothing.
Like u though....I knew where they should be.....and one day , some months ago....I was looking for something to show here......and low & behold...it was in my secret hiding place....but had slid to the back...the very back.....so I only found it ...with a deep dive....while looking for something else...

Phew !!

not lost.........misplaced.........for the time being!!

 

I had one pin here that dropped out of my fingers, bounced once, and vanished for a year and a half. Gave it away after that and thankfully it vanished when I was about to list it instead of once it went live.

 

Oh noooo... I hate when that happens. Hate it more when it's something I've bought. In which case I've begged the seller to contact me when they've found it but alas...nothing yet.

Along komo's line of thinking... Any chance you could have closed the scanner, or moved a book or something else that would cause a breeze to lift it off your work area? Slide down a crack between furniture? Stuck to the underside of another bit scanned at the same time? It's so small...

This is why I do photos as a last drop directly into the listing from my phone and store the item directly after. I've definitely photo'd then listed later and while I've not lost anything, I have had to search and it was annoying.

 

So sorry to hear that, @Bookahtoo -- Same sort of thing has happened to me, and sounds like many others. Once I had ordered a photocopy of a document that might have been for a relative (genealogical research). It wasn't, so I offered on a genealogical forum to send it to somebody who was related. There was a taker, and suddenly .. poof! The photocopy was nowhere to be found. I'm sure the person was disappointed, and I was embarrassed, having just seen it a few days earlier. Many years later I found it in a file drawer.

 

You'll find it when you're looking for something else, it'll be a very nice surprise
