While I would like this to be a genuine Hagenauer, the markings on the bottom don't seem to be right. Can anyone help identify the company/artist?

11" tall, base 8" x 3 1/2". Might benefit from a light coat of wax.

There seem to be quite a few of these around attributed to Hagenauer but I wonder if the internet worked its magic of misinformation.
I found a few similar ones, one with a dodgy looking sharpie signature and one signed with Arabic looking letters. Sadly it doesn’t show the label.
    Maybe copies of the original?

According to Google Translate the language is Marahti. निग्रो translates to Negro

Thanks, KSW - In my searches I found many similar carvings described as "in the style of Hagenauer", so I am assuming the one I have is not one of theirs. It is quite nicely done, though, so I am curious if the maker can be identified based on the writing on the bottom. I wish the one you found which says "with Arabic maker's label on back" had shown a picture of the label, particularly after what Marote seems to have found.

How interesting! Marathi is spoken in Maharashtra, and so might be consistent with a company in the northwest of India - N. W. Co. - during the colonial period.

I went back to check but definitely no photo of the label and it was sold in September 23 so long gone unfortunately.
