Our of curiosity, how does lead crystal test compared to ordinary glass & crystalline quartz?

What I was thinking. Holy crow! Asleep, meet switch!

Never tried lead crystal, but quartz tests as quartz and glass comes up as "glass" on some diamond testers. Doesn't move the lights/needle on some.

I went to a new antiques/junque center on Saturday not expecting much. I was mostly right. But back in a corner, a dark barely accessible corner, sat a set of three bowls . $5 for the set. I got them out and saw Wachtersbach and Western Germany. Mid mod colors. The biggest, not shown, had some chips, but given the brand what else is new? Hauled them out and what did I see but the FOURTH bowl from the set with no chips or wear at all. Two of the bowls still had early 70s newspaper on them. They sold me all FOUR for $5.

Went to photo the mark for y'all, looked down and... the blue plate was sitting there. Wear on the gold, but I turned it over and saw the same Bildenschild mark. I'd forgotten I even had it. The first set is dated for me, but I can't even find the second mark.

It was the best part. They were going to toss it, but it's so old they said better leave it alone! The goofy part is I don't think I've seen a piece this old by Wachtersbach before. The company goes back to either 1914 or 1832 depending on who you believe, but I don't think they exported anything my way until the 1980s. All holiday patterns.

This cast iron owl is, apparently, a cigar ash tray. I thought it was so cool:

The previous owner had a birds nest and hollowed-out eggs in it. When I went to purchase it, the guy let me keep those too. I think they should stay together. And besides, I don't smoke cigars.

I hope to be able to find out exactly what kind of eggs they are. I know a local birder....

Not out much, so not much to post (do have some jewelry pics to take). I stopped in at a thrift today, she was $3 less 20% off. She is vinyl and wigged, not porcelain, not that old, but I thought she was beautiful, and I will add shoes and socks.

One of our favorite lines from Playmates is the Baby So Beautiful dolls. They were made around 1995 to 1996 and feature really beautiful real looking eyes and came depicting many ethnic backgrounds. They were designed by J. Shackelford and were listed in Dr. Toys Best Children’s Products for 1995.

YAY! Here thrifts operating in property they own don't collect tax. If they rent the building..tax. Go figure. That's Connecticut for you - make it more complicated for everyone; it's not just the Legislative way, it's the Law. Oh, wait...!

    Good house call on Monday...

Sterling mirror, brush and comb set plus an extra mirror, shame the comb is missing some teeth :sorry:
    SSDresserItems.jpg

The oval box is alpaca, all the rest of the items are silver. One of the salt spoons is British, the other I have no idea and I will be asking in the Silver category. The calling card case isn't marked but tests as silver. The long earrings on the bottom left are by Hans Hansen of Denmark :)
    MiscSilver.jpg

Plastic fish bracelet; 2 silver bracelets; a silver necklace; silver, eilat and coral Israeli pin/pendant. The other 3 pins are unmarked, they told me they were made by a relative, a clearly talented amateur jewelry maker.
    MiscJools.jpg

And finally, lots of Mexican silver. Some I can ID, some not, I will be asking about a few in the Jewelry category.
