Hope they reply soon. I hate waiting, too. Edit. I took a close look of it again, and I think there might have been another set of marks there— to the left of the assayer mark. (cf also the ghost H to the right…) Here’s a screenshot of the spot on the left Two letters or numbers, a leopard’s head (?), a woman’s head facing right so not Queen Victoria. I think there is also a number 3 in the woman’s hair. Could possibly be the Austria-Hungary 800 silver mark though the outline of the punch is missing. The country was also known for wonderful enamels. The leopard head might be a photo artefact. There might be another rubbed mark, a square, between the assayer mark and the A punch.
There is some numbers there ! 1350 it looks like. With an "F" in front . Im trying to get a pic but its hard going !
Hi- those are interesting, but I don’t think it’s the same spot where I imagine seeing something. This is your original photo, look at the spot right to the left of the upside AA, where the flashlight hits the stem. The human brain is of course hardwired to see faces even in clouds but I see a woman’s profile there. And then some other rubbed marks to the left of it. Edit: It seems that the 925 site is having trouble a the moment, I get a notice that it’s not secure.
If you don’t see it with a magnifying glass or a loupe, it might be an illusion produced by the screenshot etc. If there is actually something there, it might be so rubbed that it’s only picked up by the light coming from the right angle. I’m looking at the screenshot on my screen with a magnifying glass, and I see even a number three in her hair. That’s pretty impressive, even for someone with an unusually vivid imagination… almost AI level hallucinating… The marks that you did find could be e.g. scratch marks if it was ever repaired.
Congratulations for your finds. I think there is some law we can put it as " if you find a valuable item in a thrift shop at a given time , there is a high probability that you would find more similar items in the same shop, if you go there within a short period of time". A similar law can be observed in finding items on beaches....Reason could be that an uninitiated donor might have given several items together to the thrift shop thinking they are a bunch of EP "silver"....Hence it might be good to thoroughly check that particular shop again for a third and fourth score.
