Featured goodbye Norma Jean

found this pastel at goodwill today - the quality is so phenomenal that 3 other dealers put it down before I grabbed it all thinking it was a print (it was under non glare glass)

I'm thinking the work is good enough that it could be a listed or known artist - it is dated "95" but I have no idea what the signature might be - what say you?

well...since u asked......it's a nice painting of some blond girl.....but anything below her chin....is a disaster of epic proportion.....and takes away from the face...

 

Always look at the hands and also if the artist seems to have avoided tackling them.

The arms are weird, looks like she's being pawed by an octopus.
I call amateur.

Maybe if you photographed her straight on instead of at an angle, we could give a better critique. The angle distorts her.

It looks like student work to me. Some good mixing and decent attempt on likeness, but the proportions of the arms/body are off and so is the likeness.

Portraits of famous people, done from photo, in media like pastels and charcoal are common assignments in the last couple of years of high school.

 

there's a lot of MM's out there.....and most are so bad..

 

That appears to be very likely.

 

I have a Marilyn I did as an art student ... my hands look better than this one imho. Hands are hard.

 

Put her in the best perspective I could and dropped a similar colored background in the corner by her hand & elbow that was cut off......
