Featured Turquoise or dyed howlite?

    I remember the first time I found what I thought was turquoise while out hiking. I was so excited. But it turned out to be Amazonite, which I'd never heard of. I ended up finding a fair amount of the stuff over the years.

    Amazonite is worth picking up. Microcline is the name for all of the colors if memory serves. Pretty stuff.

    I have a piece of amazonite larger than a soft ball we found years ago in the garden and probably a couple of gallon buckets of smaller pieces.

    Wow, nice! You win the prize for the most. I have some fairly large chunks. The first one I found was sitting on the bottom of a clear little stream - shallow enough that it was easy to retrieve. It's smooth so it was probably in water a long time. The rest of the pieces I'd spot literally laying on top of dirt very close to the trails. Always exciting to spot.

    I think you're right - sounds familiar to what I read when I started looking into what I'd found.
