I snagged this vase at the South Florida Depression Glass Show this weekend for $62 - I was thinking Viking or LE Smith - then someone said they thought it was Westmoreland - and now someone is saying McKee... it is HUGE for a non-stretch example - measures 14 3/4" TALL X 7" MOUTH OPENING X 6" BASE DIAMETER - it weighs a TON! still have not been able to positively identify - what say you? advanced thanXies

I looked through the Collector's Guide to Black Glass by Marlena Toohey. Didn't see it, or anything similar in that style (Colonial, Puritan, etc.) Also, very few pieces with octagonal bases. My book is dated 1988, in case anyone has a later version.

Malena Toohey published a follow-up book called A Collector's Guide to Black Glass 2 in 1999. I have that book but, unfortunately, your vase wasn't in that book either. I did learn, though, that Pilgrim was producing some very large black glass vases in the early 1990's. Your shape wasn't shown but it may be one more company to consider. Sorry to throw yet one more possible manufacturer in your direction!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    It is a gorgeous vase!

that’s ironic - I have a collection of black and red glass - mostly high end Italian that is both black and red that I bought this vase as a backdrop for - but part of the collection includes the Duncan miller winged console bowl and candlesticks in black - so it will especially feel at home… thanx so much for the ID - and thanx all for the input and likes
