I bought this awhile ago and never posted it. I overpayed for a gf pocket watch for $100 only because I thought this chain that came with it was gold and I was right! The extender piece is 9k and the rest of the chain is 14k! Absolutely stunning piece and definitely has some age to it I found a similar chain with a different animal online and they claim it to be 1850s... Do you all think this is true? Would love to hear all of you thoughts on it!

    Fabulous!

1stDibs has THIS dog head watch chain which the seller states is "late 1800s" and "originates from central Europe".
The Dobson one looks more like a fox to me.

I would buy a vest and a gold pocket watch just so I could sport that lovely like it deserves to be sported.

Beautiful, spart, love the detail too.
Yours is also Dutch. The style is very Dutch and I think I spotted a Dutch weight mark on the loop of the hook.
The weight mark was introduced in 1865, and I am pretty sure this was made soon after.

There should be an oak leaf mark for 14k as well. Could you check for it? It is also tiny and could be stamped anywhere, so you probably need a loupe.;)

Obviously the 9k extension is a later addition, and it isn't Dutch, 9k isn't legally gold in the Netherlands.
