    I was just thinking he looks like Wilson Barrett! Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier.

    Painting over photographs was a very popular technique in late 19th or early 20th century. I've usually seen them just in family photographs. One name for these was crayon portraits. There were other names. We have mentioned them before in these forums. Just now I can't recall the names. There was a technique of enlargement that was used, also can't recall the details of it. Not sure whether these were enlarged in the same way.

    But believe these are the characters in the play that MOS found. Great find, by the way!

    Not sure if the person who colored these could be identified or not. The sig looks like Nilly (or Nelly or Milly) Wishart.

    "Nilly Wishart"--- I'm gonna add that to my list of possible fake names, should I ever need one. I love it!
