I'm eyeing up this necklace, bad pictures, the owner is a little reticent regarding information, he doesn't know about pearls, but thinks the necklace is from the 1920s. The clasp seems pretty nice I'm wondering if it is of the esteemed era or later based off of the clasp type.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

    buying pearls from a photo.......hummm...

ok, I'll put this out there...
    Some knotted.....some not knotted...
Looks like a couple have slipped their knots ...
the clasp , from here...looks like base metal and glass stones....

they may be nice cultured pearls ...but something seems off to me..!!

There looks to be some damage on this bead, so probably faux? Looks more like a layer chip then a dent in the real thing.

I agree with Komo and Rachel. These look like faux pearls with a crystal clasp.

What is "esteemed era"? I've never heard that before.

    That may be "estimated."

You appear to be intending your use of esteem as having the meaning of a transitive verb but your sentence construction appears to use it as an adjective. It is therefore confusing, and wouldn't normally be phrased as such for the meaning you intend.
Instead of saying, "I'm wondering if it is of the esteemed era" (which implies a sense of high regard/admiration for the era), your meaning would be more clearly understood if phrased as, "I'm wondering if it is of the era it is esteemed to be". Nevertheless, esteem is not often used in conversation in the way you mean and would commonly be prone to confusion.

Excellent. Appreciate the observation. I can see what you mean. I grew up in England so my sloppy english at times is just that, sloppy (not due to English being a second language). Then again I'm not sure if it is sloppy, just strange.

I grew up in the US, where the English language is often sloppy!
But I had an English mother who spoke "properly" (despite being of the working class) and I went to a Catholic elementary school whose nuns banged on about grammar, sentence structure, etc. Nevertheless, I often become lax with my speech and writing... I blame these modern times, LOL. After all, if one wants to be fully understood, one must speak like the natives! :D
