Nice! It's a hair locket, but an unusual one.

I've never seen one that nice.
It would be soul satisfying if someone would remember me that way....

Oh! That is an amazing thing to find.
I'm always sad to see such, and similar things, parted from the family. :(

How big is it? 1" in diameter or so?

I had one some years ago - it was a double-sided brooch. You could swivel it to whichever side you wished.
I don't seem to have all my photos of it, but I did save a few.
The little flowers in it were made up of tortoise shell with teeny bits of gold in the centers.

Found these in my great-great grandma's desk, right where I put them. They were my grandmother's, and I'd thought I'd given these away years ago since "they didn't have a clasp". Guess what. Cherry prystal bakelite necklace. I was digging for something else last night and WHOOPS. Restrung them on the spot and wore them today. DSCF0151 (640x562).jpg

Not exactly a freebie, but the best find I've had in quite a while, doubly so since they're Grandma's. Needless to say, NFS. I did sell one of hers early on, 20s custard glass, but dang that thing was ugly.(LOL)

Thanks evelyb30, it would be lovely if the ring is gold... the shank is pinkier, so possibly rose gold, while the front looks like yellow gold. I didn't know that about bench jewellers. Love coming here and learning new things!

What a lovely little pendant :). Is it gold thread that spells out 'father'? It must have meant a lot to somebody.

I asked this guy that sold me some glass at flea market, about the price of pendant, and he said it was his gift for this purchase, so it is a freebie and it's a sterling silver pendant. I don't know wether it is old, though... P1000703 modified.jpg P1000702 modified.jpg

It's not old, 90s probably, but for free you did well. :)

This was payment in kind for a railroad lock key

That backpaper has to be only slightly more common than hen's teeth
