    Hello again,
This cameo is from my local antiques shop. I have not realised that it had a cracked through when I first seen it, but when I got home I have seen the crack and I hope it did not happen in my bag, I know I should have known better, should have asked for a box.
It reminded me of one of the paintings displayed in Louvre, but I can’t remember which one. It’s all a blur…. I wonder if that’s right, or if this is a scene from a painting.
It has two signatures, I can probably make “Carneschi” or something similar and the other one is lower down and starts with letter J. I wonder whom signed the cameo, does the name bring any bells?
Approximately how old is the cameo? The frame is sterling silver and had sone works… I think the clasp was replaced.
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

    Nice cameo!
These are not my forte, so others will help you with age/origin etc

It looks like an old crack. It has dirt/glue in it, so I don't think its something you did.

Yes, it is an old crack. There also seems to be a chip off the other side.
I would take it back to the shop. If you really want to keep it, at least try and get some of the money back.
That said, it doesn't show on the front, it is probably just along the carved white 'ground' line.
I don't think it has. Silver brooches often had base metal fixtures, and the hinge and clasp look like a set.
I can't see the length of the pin, but it is probably early 20th century, with that clasp.

Thank you so much, I would like to keep it, will have the frame tested as well, as the shop has sold it as a sterling silver frame. I have built a good relationship with the gents and ladies that sell in that antique shop Swan Antiques in Hertfordshire, am sure that next time they will offer me a discount.
Found the photo of what I am thinking as a depiction, any thoughts?

Top name would be Carnesecchi. We've had him quite a bit in the Big Thread o' Cameos & when we see them have been alerting a descendant who has been putting together family history & putting it on line. About 2/3 down this page he starts showing cameos: http://www.carnesecchi.eu/incisore1.htm
A little way down from there you'll see another Hector & Andromache, in a pared down composition.

I can't see the other name well enough to make a guess. Carnesecchi kept a shop where he sold all sorts of things that might appeal to tourists in search of a souvenir of Rome, so I imagine it's possible that his name is there as the dealer & the other is the cutter. Maybe flour or cocoa would bring up the signature?

I wonder if we are taking about Francesco Cassenecchi who’s records show that he lived in London in 1829 and he moved to Paris in 1845?
Or are we talking about Giuseppe Cassenecchi whom had a shop in Rome in the early 1800’s?
I had a quick read on the website, and looked at the cameos, they look different as a style. Can there be other Cassenecchi cameo carvers?
@Bronwen please, could you date approximately my cameo, not the frame.
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

Found 2 others with the same image, but no useful info on those site that helps finding the name on yours
    https://snackersantiques.com/en/assortiment/camee-goud-romeinse-afbeelding/
    https://www.lyonandturnbull.com/auctions/jewellery-and-silver-190/lot/2
    And I found this one
    https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/oyster-shell-cameo-hector-before-1873235183
and, as Bronwen already mentioned, the scene would indeed be Hector, with his wife Andromache and their baby Astranax.
They mention a signature, but it isn´t shown

    And I found this one:
    https://www.invaluable.com/auction-...hell-cameo-of-andromache-atte-94-c-292458aa9a
And it says that the image is after an 18th century intaglio by Luigi Pichler, and that can be found here

Based on info that we have discussed here on various threads, as well as the interesting and detailed information from Pierluigi's site, Francesco Carnesecchi was active from the 1820s to the early 1870s. Over his lifetime, he had shops in Rome, Paris, Naples and London. It seems that he moved back and forth between these cites at various times in his life.

With his cameos, I can think of 3 reasons why they might look different, and there are probably others:
    1) his skill and artistry improved over the years,
    2) he had apprentices who did the less expensive cameos but they were signed Carnesecchi, or
    3) he bought cameos from others and signed his name to them to indicate they were sold by his shop.

With multiple shops, he probably could not have singlehandedly carved all the cameos he sold. It is possible that all 3 reasons may have been happening in tandem.

I know Swan Antiques, I used to work in Hemel. Do you want some car boot sale suggestions round there?

Thank you for sharing, really appreciate your response.
I would like to keep it, but also am wondering if the family is collecting their ancestors work, would like to write to Pierluigi at some point to offer the photos.
Thank you all, it’s been great learning.
    Kind regards,
    Simona
