That area of the painting is some of the most in need of professional attention, so hard to know what was really intended there. However, I don't know how an historian of Flemish art would characterize this genre, but I would have no trouble calling it Flemish magical realism. Pointy ears cannot be ruled out.

The dimensions of the Sauvage painting are 6 3/4 x 9 in. (17.1 x 22.9cm) & yours are 21 x 16 1/2 in. The proportions are very close. Can the overall size of yours be measured precisely in inches? In cm/mm? I don't think your painting was cut down, think shape was following a decorative fashion of its time.

These seem to me to be there definitely for meaning, maybe twofold: summertime, when roses are in full bloom; fallen, the bloom is off, innocence lost. Dipped a little into the history & meaning of Beltane, which Wiki informs me was more meaningful to herdsmen than to agrarian people, a tradition among Gaels, bonfires a major part of the observance. Not really a good fit. I still think Midsummer is possible.

I mostly thought you might have input on the style/possible origin of the painting (not the crazy seal and all the rabbit holes that leads to).

It's certainly a bit of a guessing game at this stage, so no one will be held to their answers.
