Those are smart folks you've engaged , and they'd be remiss not to shake the tree and see what falls out !!

 

It's never a bad idea to make a contact, especially if it's somebody who buys the "what the heck do I do with it now?" items.

 

Too true ! These collectors have been studying this stuff their whole lives,and are generally happy to share their wisdom with a fellow scholar-and nobody treasures documents and artifacts like a lifelong researcher.
PS-They can also frequently tell the museum curator a thing or two they didn't know.

 

Why not put a reserve price on it. I know it costs, but if it's something of value ...

 

reserve prices can often hinder a sale......imo

 

Or stop one from going too low. You can take a reserve off; real auction houses use them to keep lowball bids from taking high-end items nobody was looking for that day.

Judging by the comp below, I'd list it at 10 day auction for $499, or your minimum strike price. You can always go down. My problem? Selling stuff I like a lot. This would be one of those.
