Featured Lovely wood turned bowl - elm?

Sorry for posting this bowl in the art group but there is no group for natural fibers or wood. And some wood bowls are truly works of art. This one has me stumped. I thought at first it might be cork but I am wondering if it elm? Measures 3.62 x 9.87 inches

 

Spalted something. Maple?

 

Not oak. Ash?

 

Weight? Interior Diameter?
Looks like a near-perfect hemisphere, so those figures would yield approximate density; thus a wood species may be found that matches. Just a thought.

 

I'm thinking more like some kind of burl. Interesting technique; first turned, then part of the surface incised. Nice contrast between the textures of the incised and smooth areas. I note the measurements got separated by the photos - I hate when that happens to me...3.62 x 9.87"

 

It looks like a burl. Difficult to tell species in the distorted grain. But it might be made by Alan Stirt -

OOOHHHH, you could contact him, ask if it's his. If it is maybe he can tell you what kind of wood it is!

 

Sure looks like it could be his. I'd ask. What's the worst that happens?

At first glance, I thought it could be mine
After looking at the bottom of the bowl and closer inspection of the top, I realized it isn't one of mine.
It looks like it was carved with a different method than I would use.
The lack of a signature is another giveaway. 'Thanks for checking.

I was hoping that if it was not his, he might be able to suggest another wood worker. Ah, well. Worth trying.

Oh well. Even he had to take a second look so it was a good guess.
