Antique photo 1915-16 Mens Bowling Team "EL ROI TANS"

I have been trying to find anything out about this team photo to no avail...No indication as to where it was taken or what "G.S.F.B. Ass'n." stands for, any help here would be greatly appreciated!! I'm thinking Roi-Tan as in the cigar maker? I will be selling this and I hope it has some desirability. It's got the sports thing going as well as cigar and Bowling connection... what say ye?

That may be it! the people I got this from said most of the photos were from Santa Rosa and San Francisco...I'll see what I come up with Thanks Terry!

 

Roi Tan cigars was one of the brands my Grandfather smoked in the 50's.

 

I found mention of the El Roi Tans bowling league in Chicago.

Now I have that stupid ditty in my head: can't believe it was rattling around in my memory...

Man to man smoke a Roi Tan, Man to man smoke a Roi Tan cigar, man to man smoke a Roi Tan for a taste that is better by far!

 

Well maybe the team traveled? I read that the pharmacies were sponcering the teams in my research,but that was in the early 30's.

 

A national / international company like that would have sponsored local teams in many cities

 

I would imagine that national brands (cigar companies, etc) would sponsor teams in multiple metropolitan areas

I found a few references to the bowling team "El Roi Tans" in 1915 but not where they were from. Also found a baseball team the "El Roi Tans" yes Terry and Mansons, big name like Roi Tan prob sponsored more than just 1 team..ans Shi, yes as I read a little more I think you are right about traveling..still want to figure out the G. S. F. B. Association....more than likely is for Greater San Francisco Bowling Association but would like to be certain. I did see a few Facebook pages on bowling maybe I can get some help there.

 

I agree with Terry. G.S.F.B. Ass'n= Greater San Francisco Association. I bowl in the Greater Asheboro Association.

LOL . Yes Terry. Believe it or not. It seems we have fewer teams each year. About 10 years ago our leagues would have 24 teams 2 nights a week. Last year there was only 17 on one night.

I found Chicago mentioned a lot in my research last night.

 

Shiloh it looks like they are talking about a "local" bowling league and the teams that had signed on to compete. I'm not seeing a date on that article... am I just missing it? most of the info I am seeing is connected to Chicago as well. Now I'm really confused lol

 

I wish I had saved the info I found but it was dated in the 30's and I was concentrating on the date of your card. I remember I found the old Roi Tan facility and I think it was in Chicago? I also found old news papers but when I clicked on the pages they wanted me to pay
