But show us the front of that 18k ring before scrapping. The setting looks like it's 1920s!

 

so , what is the hosts speciality.....that she doesn't know jewelry ??

 

I took it to a jeweler, the setting was damaged when they removed the diamond to reset it. My jeweler could fix it and I priced a sapphire to replace it. It would cost about $350 to do the work and I don't think the ring warrants it. I thought it was 1920s also, that's why I asked my jeweler.

I also got a 14k horseshoe pin set with pearls and diamonds. About 5 of the pearls are missing. I have the jeweler replacing them, the estimate on that was much more reasonable.

She specializes in primitives, doesn't wear much jewelry and knows nothing about it. I'm lucky she asked me and didn't just dump it all at the local thrift shop!

Had a good days shopping yesterday, coral necklace with gold clasp £1, chalcedony mourning brooch £3, Venetian glass beads £5, silver owl bookmark £5, silver earrings £1 each, might be gold earrings 50 pence. Operculum shells £1.
The second pic show recent Charity shop finds, £4 for silver slide tie pin, faux Lea Stein cat brooch £1, faux pearls necklace had silver clasp so bought that for £1. Ajanta 950 silver pendant £1.40. The Exquisite pendant was bought for the small faux pearls 50 pence. Green glass necklace and plated bracelet £1 each.

A few new finds today. Got 14 of these old billheads/invoices total. I can't resist the antique ephemera. Love the vignettes showing the factories and or the products being sold. Also got a few Morgan Silver Dollars (surprised, coins usually sell way too high at auction) and some tins. Got outbid on the more expensive items I had my eye on but at least I didn't go home empty handed.

The photo is of a labor day parade dated 1929. Are the old gentlemen firefighters?

The parachute hardware factory, closed over a decade, was maybe two miles from where I"m sitting.

 

Can anyone comment on how common these antique invoices/billheads are? I don't see them very often (perhaps I am looking in the wrong places) but think there is a definite possibility of large hoards of them being out there waiting to be uncovered. Anyways they are a pretty affordable way to collect ephemera and build a collection of local history if you are into that. Any comments on desirability of these types of ephemera.

 

I'd imagine that there WERE tons of them, but a lot went to the landfill when businesses closed down.

 

After a rough start I got over to the ReStore today. They'd put out more jewelry and a few Southwest souvenir bits. The 3-strand freshwaters and the gold-colored one with little stones are both sterling. The little stones are labradorite. The third necklace is real druzy quartz bit. Deborah Puddleduck came along for the ride - $2 for a piece of Beswick? Yes please. The pins aren't much of a muchness. The prize OOPSIE was a big hunk of cottonwood or other softwood carving. Hopi, unsigned, and made four the tourist trade. But it's huge. It has to be 2 feet tall. I found a similar one for sale out of the Southwest, but only two figures, for $500. I paid under US$30 for everything.
