Hi all! I bought this ring recently, I love it :). It has a gold band and silver top with diamonds and a large central pearl (size US 4.75). It's for me, I'm not reselling but would love any more information you may have on it. It came from England, do you think it originated in Britain? How old could it be? Is the top and band a marriage? Thanks as always!

A cute ring, Elen. I don't think it is Georgian though.

The silver part seems to be cast, if so, it isn't Georgian. Georgian fine metal jewellery is hammered from sheets.
It also looks too 'crude' to be Georgian. Georgian jewellery makers didn't have modern equipment, but they did put time and effort into making a jewel as perfectly as possible. And they knew how to center a pearl, even a baroque one. 'Georgian' fakes often look crude.
The beads have no actual function, most of them don't hold the diamonds in place.

The diamonds are senailles btw, faceted diamond chips. Senailles were also used during the Georgian period, but it isn't a sign that a jewel is Georgian.
    Yes, it is.

    Oops, forgot this one.
Very unlikely that it originated in Britain. It is possible that the English seller knew what it was, but that is impossible to prove now.

A lot of these fakes, especially the ones married with an antique component like your ringband, are made in Bulgaria. I can't say for sure that this one is, but it looks like a Bulgarian fake to me.

It is quite a statement for such a tiny sized ring!

And so you should, it is sweet. But I hope it doesn't end up in the fakes circuit at a later date.
The entire silver part is the giveaway imo. You can tell it wasn't hammered from a sheet, too chunky, and the edges are too thick.
There are small dents all over the silver, which you see on cheap cast jewellery (or on Brutalist jewellery, where it is intentional). And you can see those rough protrusions in between the petals, which you never see on a cut and filed sheet of metal.

I reckon you’ve three marriages there. The band is older, I agree with aj on that. I think the stone set part was a button. And someone added in the Pearl.

RANT: I hate when sellers deliberately leave out known info in order to potentially achieve a better selling price, it's dishonest. Too many sellers justify it with, "Caveat emptor". :shifty:

I’ve seen a fair few things made up from nice old buttons.

Old buttons can be extraordinary.Re authentic Georgian craftsmanship-it's fascinating to think how many of these tiny works of art were completely hand-fabricated.

I went to the Cairo Museum many years ago. Five thousand year old exquisite jewels.
