I thought I'd post my small collection of wood carvings as promised! I had two out of a box to try decorating my new dresser with them, so they were all out to photograph.

Let's start with the non wood ones. :hilarious:

One of my favorites would definitely be my favorite if he was wood, but he's resin. A friend got him for me for 10 euros and I love him. He's just so stunning.

Next is my adorable little ceramic owl. I just love his colors and wonkiness. I got him for a euro and a little black paint should fix that ear right up. I have no idea what sort of age he has, can you tell? I saw online he may be south american?

This was the carving that started it all, a gift from my aunt in England. He's wierd looking, as I get older I think I wouldn't go for ones with those overly long faces, but I think he's great.

Now this one is one of those little cranes that you see everywhere in France, I don't know if they're folk carvings or just a common thing that people in their spare time make. But I like this guy, this one is a darker wood then I see generally, what is it?

And finally this cat is my favorite. AJ mentioned it might be Asian. The tag is French so I figured maybe an older french piece, but I do agree the style and wood is inkeeping with those in Asia (which country again? Was it Bali?) In the back of my head I assumed maybe 30s, but the tag might be new and dirty for all I know about tags. Anyway, I think he's gorgeous, I love the tone and smoothness, the effect from a further away perspective is very calming.

This translates to: Sculpted wood, hand painted. Dreaming cat.

    Thanks for looking! :shame:

    Oh, yes, very impressive.:)
    North American.:) From Oaxaca, Mexico.
You see them everywhere full stop.:playful: They are buffalo horn carvings from India. Probably from Kerala, in the south.

Oh he's horn is he? And Indian?? I had no idea lol. I did have one made of horn, much bigger and not a crane, but I didn't realize he was horn too.

Thanks for the ID on the owl! I think he's such fun.

    OH I MISSED ONE

Dated Yugoslavia 1990. He took a tumble last night off the shelf so he's now got a chip. Hoping the crack in the photo isn't new!
