I came across this at an estate and decided to purchase it based on the resemblance to some very old Meissen pieces. The monogram looks so similar to the famous "AR" or "AF". Thoughts?

I'd be thinking a lady circa 1900 bought a blank urn and decorated it herself.

Early 20th century, one of many unrecorded/unknown Austro/Bohemian/German makers copying Wolfson/Meissen style and kludging an Augustus Rex mark. Seriously doubt it's an amateur on a blank, far too much detail and multiple firings would be required.

Thanks! What would the giveaways be on real vs copy?

The quality of the decoration. On real examples the people don't look like caricatures and there is a lot more detail. The proportion of the people on your vase are not anywhere near true to life - they seem to have a touch of dwarfism. The top factories employed and trained quality painters.

The problem is most of the pieces you see offered in the market these days are copies/repro's. I had a look on 1st Dibs to try and find some decent examples, even that site seems to be plagued by poor quality examples not by the main factories. Looks like things have really gone downhill in the last few years. You may need to look at museum collections now to see real pieces.

Edit to add, here are some which are almost certainly real:

Mine do seem to have dwarfism compared to that one, don't they? I will say, they both have pretty goofy looking faces no matter how you spin it :wacky:

Interestingly, I also happened to find A FINGERPRINT in the paint on mine in one spot. That's probably a giveaway as well...
