Featured Unusual plates

    Found these today. Google images throws up lots of gaudy Welsh examples, one of which is very similar in design. I am thinking perhaps more a western take on imari or some other oriental pattern? Blue pigment is in the glaze but red oxide painted on the top. Not sure if this indicates age or if it was done to emulate older pieces. Only clue by way of marks are the numerals on the back of one. 1035. Diameter = 23cm

    These are a type of English imari, but the design is more refined that Gaudy Welsh or Gaudy Dutch. My take from the numbering on the base is c. mid-19th c. Staffordshire.

    Thanks. Yes I use the potteries frequently. Find it really good for dating pieces with the history and backstamps.

    We had a gentleman here, called Mansons.... loved by all..... one day he put up Christmas tree ornaments for sale .... I bought 2 of em .......
