Tell me not to buy this...or do?

    Hi again all.

I've found a new lot that looks interesting, for an excellent price. But I'm on a self ruled buy ban until February (which I've already broken 3 times), I've not gotten my paycheck for the last three months of work (freelance, this client is always late), and the aforementioned lots didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped.
I'd like your input on this to see if what I'm seeing is right.

Left to right: Purple glass brooch, enamel box (bad shape), french Boules (petanque) medal, sterling and amethyst brooch, joan of arc brooch (price check: sold for 5e), metal medallion with scene, Cicada (?) in resin necklace, amber chip necklace, antique rhinestone brooch, brooch right below it, gold leaf oak leaf, carnelian pendant, coral necklace, possibly silver branch brooch, something? necklace.
These are the items I think have value (ik we don't do values here, so that's not what I'm asking for), but I dont want to just buy on an impulse and end up with a bunch of stuff I ultimately can't move on. Trying to curb the impulse buying! I'm usually so careful with money but a few paychecks and some pretty antiques and I'm gone lol
    Thank you for your thoughts.

to me it looks like one of those lots people put together full of the things they cant sell

depends on the price of course

There’s two amber chip necklaces. That wee gold coloured Victorian brooch is rather interesting. So is the one behind the damascene pill box. There’s a Russian painted pendant.

I would pass and I would send that client an invoice again with a sternly worded letter! Seems like you need to add late fees in your future contacts with them.

The oak leaf looks like one from the 80s when there was a fad for dipping leaves in gold & making jewellery with them.

Cameo does not show well enough to pronounce judgment; either glass, which would be in keeping with quality of other pieces, or hardstone, which might make the lot worth something. Think not plastic.

I love the wooden ship, but doubt it's worth a ton at resale. The little purple one in the upper left and the photo frame with the child's face in it looks really sweet. Bear already mentioned the amber. THis is the sort of thing I'd love to see up close before pulling the trigger.

I spy with my little eye...
Do you see the cameo? Well, beneath the cameo is a good looking thing that looks good and old and sparkling.
Might be old as dirt...might have some good craftsmanship...
I think there could be your money.
I also like the purple amethyst-looking brooch- thing above the boxes...
But all depends on the asking price as with everything

Thank you all, sadly I was too late. The seller wanted 48e for 48 pieces...I know I couldn't go wrong with that but for the reasons above and coming off the back of 60e for the two lots that didn't turn out great I was hesitant. Ofc I'm gutted now, I just always take far too long on these things. :banghead:

Unfortunately they're a huge corporation that run the show in my line of work. Either you accept their tardy payments or you choose not to participate :bigtears:

ACK what a way to start my day :shifty: It went up last night but I had a late start to the morning so didn't get online until just now.

Oh there's no negotiating with them. The reps get told as much as we do, and everyone is at the mercy of the payman. If I start doing stuff like that I won't be called up again and they'll get someone else probably. It's good money but they have a 90d policy and it's usually between that and double that. I did 5 events for them in production and 3 as a participant, all of them were late if I recall, still waiting for one prize money payment and one production payment. I was told there were delays, and then this week they said apparently the payments will come this month. Bout time!

There will be other, better lots.:)
The only item of interest to me was the little gold rosette brooch komo pointed out. But that was probably a thin hollow gold front with a silver back, which you could have sold for 30-40 euro.
All in all it would have been too much work and time to get a profit out of the lot. Wait for the good ones.;)

If they have a net90 policy then they should stick to it. I'm surprised no one has taken them to court over such unprofessional behavior....but I understand, my old line of work had similar jerk clients who didn't care that people had bills to pay. Always be on the look-out to diversify your skills and income sources, as I'm sure you already are doing!

Well , don't hate me, but this may make u feel worse...

Let's say...ala AJ , the brooch 30 to 40.....that's way more than half what u would have paid and still left you with 47 items.

I'm seeing several other items that at minimal value ...say 5 to 10 euro's , would cover the rest of your cost ...plus......still leaving you with 40 items.

    & 40 items at say.....a conservative 5 euro's a piece..... 200 euros......
well to me that's how one starts off their hoard.....with a win !

Yes that's what I rather thought myself. I spent last evening doing research on the pieces, the amber chip as a pair could go for 12-15, the other bits as you say at 5e worst case scenario....:arghh:

Oh well! Maybe I'll keep my eye on the seller...

It's a lot to process though! The item research, the price research, photos, cleaning/repairing, listings, inventory, shipping, buyer communication...it all adds up in time. I used to do smaller bits but now I have a minimum profit before I'll bother. Better to wait for the bigger payouts and use your time for yourself (or more treasure hunting) I say. :p
