So, this Omega watch came in its original box, looks pristine, runs, but has this purple stuff and handwritten sticker on the back. Under magnification it looks like the purple is on top of the surface and could maybe be cleaned off. It does not look like the surface of the watch itself is discolored.

I know very little about watches and don't want to do anything to this watch unless I know what the purple is and if I should attempt to clean it before selling on-line.

Watch people, can you help? Thanks for any advice!

Thank you bosko, that is great news! Before posting I googled purple seal omega and didn't come up with anything.

Yr welcome. From what I can tell it seems to be a protective agent applied at the factory (?).

A wonderful example. Ask questions first - clean later (if warranted).

let the next guy down the line clean it ......... I say it's a good selling point!

Agree with above. Leave as is for the present. It can be removed later by the buyer.

I love the matching wrist strap on the ebay version sited above. Wonder if you could get one of those easily?

It was a very good find indeed. Now just trying to figure out how much of a premium the "unused in box" warrants.

Me, too! It looks fab with that yellow-trimmed black strap! I wonder if that enhanced the selling price?

Just remember you can always come down but going up on the price is a little tough. ;):D

If it were mine I think I would do a BIN listing with a price of around $2,300.00 with a BO option. I would also set my BO with a turndown of anything that is not close to your bottom line price to keep the bottom feeders away.:happy:

I was just wondering if this is the type of item that eBay would require you to get "authenticated"?

To be fair... The $2.00 included the box.

Like I told @drg642 - you can always come down but going higher after someone hits the BIN button is a little tough.

Thanks everyone for your comments, and Peggy for your pricing input. I'll probably start around 2500 and see what happens.
I'm not sure how watch authentication works, will look into it before listing. If it works like high end jewelry, I would ship to an ebay authentication site, and they would ship to the buyer after authenticating.
I am also considering consigning it to a high end watch company that I ran across online while researching the watch. I may check that out and see what I could net after their commission.
