Two recent finds. This first one is a large 12" tall vase. It was made by (local) Lonesomeville pottery, which in the early 2000's recreated early 20th C pottery styles. $10



And this 8" MCM guy by Pottery Craft USA was only $8:

No doubt a PawPaw type of carving but i liked it. Its 14 inches long,and the wood is incredibly light.Any idea what kind of wood it is ?



Fun little box 6 inches high,3 wide. From India.Smells lovely,I wondered if it was cedar .

 

Meant to hold spices for certain. The drawers aren't even close to air-tight, but in India where cooking spices are in daily use that doesn't matter as much.

 

They’d actually never use that for spices in any self respecting Indian home. The tradition is proper stainless steel spice holders.

 

Yes, decorative. A popular import a few years back. Pier 1, etc.

That's the one I didn't think of. Tried Thailand, Laos etc. Never thought of Myanmar.

 

Haven't been out much...long story. I visited two thrifts and an antique mall this week. This is the jewelry, have a few more things to photograph.

Sorry, got a new internet carrier today. Last stop was the antique mall. This was marked "faux cameo" for $12.95. I thought it was gold-plated...I do know there is crazing on the cameo.

 

You are right. And that box rarely ever gets changed. Wood is difficult to keep clean I would imagine and would retain/absorb the fragrance?

Roshan, yes, wood would hold fragrance and the powder would impregnate it.

There’s a sizeable Indian origin population in my part of London, so I can buy stainless steel spice boxes and other utensils very easily. As well as the spices, in proper big bags not the silly mass branded jars. My local little mini mart sells proper spices.

The trick in our large supermarkets is to buy stuff from what they label the World Foods Aisle. That’s the one often packed with elderly tiny aunties in sarees, who are a delight to talk to, too. I pick their brains sometimes which can provoke a heated debate between them on the right ingredient and the right cooking method.
