Ambrose original, repro or factory art

    I picked this up last week. There are a few very similar items flying about described as Ambrose originals. I think maybe it is a repro though or a cheeky factory piece. Mainly because of the swirly style and commercial frame. It looks like oil on board with an art shop frame. Painting without frame is 40cm x 50cm.

    factory. signature looks like Ann Brose. painter knew nothing about sails, the wind and the effect on the boat.

    Ditto.

    That boat has hit a sandbank, it is too high in the water.

    Is the third vertical line in the signature dotted, which would make it an 'I'? Not that I suppose it matters if it is a fictitious signature.

    Pure decorator piece - agreed. This was purchased in a furniture store when someone bought rec room or living room furniture and needed something to put on a wall.

    well the hanging hardware and stapled corners say there's not a lot of age here....
    & Larson juhl...was well known to me in the 1990's..

    Larson Juhl was founded in the late 1800s but are one of the big names in frames today. Definitely a newer piece.

    I was doing the bulk of my framing in the 90's..
