Featured An interesting wood box --- with hidden section

Hello,

Attached below is a photo of a wooden box.

Given its dimensions and open limit, I suspect there may be a hidden section inside.

I examined the drawer and external finish but couldn't find a hint.

Please share your insights/knowledge with me.

I tried and it won't move.

 

looks like the outside is oak..

photo it upside down.....and from the rear too.

 

does the top slider move any other way but back and forth??

 

what's that metal looking button on the right side of the top drawer slide.....I don't see it on the left ?

Does the sliding lid have stops in it to prevent it from sliding totally out the back?

Also, I found the movement of top cover and bottom is somehow connected, like moving the top cover would loose the movement of bottom drawer.

 

What is that writing on the lip of the bottom drawer ?I wonder what in the heck that metal bowl is for ? Is it removable ? No markings ? Whatever this is,I love it . I keep thinking of things to ask ! Maybe you push the top up from the bottom when the lower drawer is open . Maybe that button Komokwa pointed out is pushed in to let it slide out ?

 

The vertical slots on the top tray suggest the divider can be repositioned. I wouldn't be surprised if that wee part were in some way pertinent in this puzzle.

 

Is the "bowl" possibly an ash tray? And is that an area for striking matches by the bowl?

 

I wonder if the bowl held a sponge and this in fact isnt a humidor of some sort ?

 

those slots are found on cigarette and cigar boxes..

 

so a tobacco ...cigar box of some sort...

 

with matches in the cubby behind the striker...

 

that may be the other way around, and the drawer can loosen the sliding top..!
