Spotted this in a store the other day. Priced $85.00 with one protruding piece in back broken off. I think it is probably modern but what do you say? Marked as shown under the paint. Any ideas? Big and ugly. Maybe 18-20" tall. Guess it is a vase despite the handle. Think the piercings would make it impractical.

Magnificently over the top. Kitsch with a capitol "K".

I feel like it's more vintage but have to admit I've never seen similar. Could it say "Budapest" in the blue writing under the paint?

Thanks! Shows an acquisition date of 1892 but no information about where held. Not sure what the Powerhouse Collection is. Will have to follow this lead more tomorrow when on my PC.

And an exclamation mark. That's almost so far over the top it's in orbit.

If it's by Ignac Fischer it's definitely one of his wildest most avant garde' pieces.
Ignac Fischer-the 19th century 'Hungarian Liberace of Ceramics' ?

Fascinatingly hideous, and very well made.
It looks like a cross between a dolphin and a cockatoo. A dolphatoo?

Very few things could look more late 19th-early 20th century Hungarian than this creature.

    A Fischer mark for reference.

    Agreed!

    Oh, that explains it then.

I can see it atop a large grand piano with a candelabra.

I think it's fab. I wasn't familiar with Fischer's work. Exuberant is the word I would use to describe.

The last one found is not a match. Equally exuberant so I can see how one might think they are the same..... LOL!

Apologies. A bit hard to see the tree from the forest with this ware!

..... so, looks like this is truly 19th century. The one Anund found is in a museum collection in Australia. The mark matches the one Debora shows.

I am surprised, as the condition, other than the one loss, is like new. Here is a picture of where the missing piece is. You can see what it should look like in the first picture showing the complete one on the other side.

I would imagine that such losses on something like this are understandable and tolerable to a certain degree. How much does it affect value? Based on some ebay sales, Fischer's work can bring some decent money. Assuming I could get this for a bit less than asking price, is it worth getting? There has to be someone out there that would just have to have it..... :wideyed::woot:

I'd say,IMHO-it's so eccentric and well-crafted,I'd buy it.Really,it's like a damned Victorian acid trip !
It's not at all to my taste, but for $70-$80 I'd get it (& trade it for a piece of A&C metal work).
