How does everyone clean closed back old jewelries

Obviously can't soak in soapy water

Also how to replace tiny missing diamonds?

I don't even think I can find one lose like that fits in the exact shape

And do you have anxiety wearing them for fear of damage it more ...

I usually never wear anything because I am quite anxious and adhd and I used to exercise and train martial arts like every hour if I'm awake, and broke some delicate ones wearing them already...

Only started getting comfortable wearing some less high maintenance ones like mostly precious metal with small stones, because I broke my ankle and is not doing violent and aggressive sport now

I still feel anxious as I am living in a big city now and constantly feel like in danger, I cover everything with long sleeves and scarfs and put my hands in pocket in public

I also constantly feel it's better safe than sorry

When I was in Europe people told me even costume jewelry is not safe to wear as others can't tell what's cheap vs expensive

I am also east asian so I'm seen as prime target in the west

It depends on the type of jewellery. Using a sunshine cloth is generally safe, it is dry and you rub the metal with it.
Depends on how and where they are set. Could you show us a photo?
If you don't feel safe posting photos on a public platform, you can start a thread in the General Discussion Forum, that is for members only.
    Yes.;)
That depends on where in Europe. I live in The Netherlands, and wearing costume jewellery is no problem at all overhere.
I usually wear silver or gold, which is quite normal here too. But I only wear expensive jewellery when the occasion calls for it, in a safe environment and minimum outside exposure.

If I visit a country or city where you can't wear gold or silver, I don't.
And when I was in Lima, Peru I didn't wear any jewellery at all, because I was warned beforehand that thieves wouldn't think twice about breaking your arm to get at your bracelet or ring.
So you adjust to the environment you're in.
Come to The Netherlands, we have a sizeable East Asian population, and no one sees them as a target.;)
Over 10% 1st and 2nd generation Indonesian and Peranakan, and many more with (part)Asian roots, as well as other East Asians. I am part Indonesian, btw.

I wear my old jewelry all the time.
A dear friend of mine once told me: 'nobody knows what you wear, nobody knows its real.'
So I m not afraid to wear it.
I try to take care to wear a safe chain or not to wear rings that are too big.
Although, I must admit, I also wear my Old Flemish jewels when I m cleaning the house :hilarious:
About cleaning close backs: I use a soft toothbrush and some silver cleaner.
    A Sunshine cloth also helps

We were in Haarlem,Netherlands about 3 months before Covid and stayed right next to the old church,St. Bavos. Beautiful-but the church bells rang every hour on the hour, naturally waking me up .
I'd get up,look out the window, and there were people walking and bicycling to and fro at one, two, three in the morning-'reg'lar as clockwork'.
You don't see that in U.S. towns and cities.
PS-Sorry to be pedantic old chums-but as a born & bred U.S. citizen ( don't own a pickup truck)-I think the States has become an armed madhouse.

Many of them going home after a night out, most bars close at two in the morning. Others on their way to work, working shifts.

I wear my old jewelry all the time. If I want to wear something that needs repair, I have a jeweler I take it to. I wear my precious jewelry in public, all the time, in a US city with no issues. I wouldn't wear it while doing a sport though. I also don't wear any to work but I have a sometimes weird and strenuous job so it's to protect the jewelry and myself.

If you post photos of the pieces you are talking about it helps us give more detailed responses.

Freedom from fear sounds so nice

I have complex PTSD, jewelry is a bit like my escape from reality of suffering.

You know in life after a series of events that's perceived as bad happened, fear has a purpose of keeping us safe... Only if freedom from fear was that easy I could be psych issue free already by now

I am very sorry to hear that, Kitty.
So good that you found your own way to escape. I hope looking at our jewellery forum and reading the threads will also help. We also have a lot of fun btw.

I have several health issues, and find that looking at beauty is therapeutic. So is surrounding myself with beauty.

Thanks I find antique people less toxic than the bougie people who compete with who's got more expensive jewelry I feel

Do you live in a small area with close community because I don't trust any big cities or even towns, maybe if an emirati prince finds me and take me to dubai, monaco, singapore ok I feel more comfortable wearing jewelry with security, or big cities in East Asian countries are generally ok and safe

Jewelry does help, I put something before bed after shower, take a photo and pretend my maladaptive daydream husband took me on a extravagant romantic date.. when others asks me what I do with jewelry this is my answer , or pretend I got proposed with a type two a twenty carat ring on a pink beach private island, I find having some antique jewelry really helps with coping

I don't even post photos online and made all social network profile private, hmm but maybe I'll do what you suggested and post here on the membership only section to fish some compliments to stroke my ego?

Reason I brought this up was partly also because I got mugged and almost raped, many many sexual and random streets harassment, phone and wallet stolen in Europe, I heard it's like that everywhere now but I remember going to many big cities in america and nothing bad ever happened, maybe it's the luck of the draw.

I personally know antique dealers who got mugged too Sooo... Unless someone lives in a really nice place not close to any big cities I wouldn't feel comfortable with risking wearing jewelry. I do enjoy it just putting it on very briefly and just look into mirror and pretend I'm going somewhere

And this is antique.. imagine those people with rolex

I just saw someone who got stabbed over a fake watch, you know those fancy ones with the three circles from patek philippe, it's not even a good fake it looks obviously fake to me.. and that happened in city of London inner square mile supposedly the most camera surveillance in the world... I used to live there few minutes walk, I would do yoga in the park there but would get followed and harassed constantly, a nice older lady that lived there would comfort me saying if anything happens the inner city police are everywhere don't be scared... But honestly these crimes always happen so quickly can never rely on the police

So I wear my jewelry alone, on my bed, but pretend I have a cat and a husband and we live in a castle on a safe island and I just wear jewelry for the beauty, not a toxic way to show social status to hurt pride and cause jealousy in a rat race matrix world

    :playful:
I live in a town of nearly 250 thousand. It is surrounded by villages, you'd probably feel safer there.
Frankly, I feel safer overhere than in a big city in the East Asian countries I've visited.
Nice romantic dreams to float away on, Kitty.:) I'm glad jewellery helps you to visualize those dreams.
