Good afternoon I bought a ceramic figure in a mixed auction lot yesterday and returned home with a boxful of other bits and pieces. Included were these pieces that look to be souvenir style wares but can anyone please tell me the country or countries of origin?

The bottle is a glass wine bottle coated in leather? and patterned raffia. The little boxes are beaded wirework and the gourd has a piece of paper with it which reads “ceremonial Pombe ladle”.

    All guidance welcome .

They’re all African. Which is a bit broad.

Don't know if this is helpful, but "pombe" means "beer" in Swahili.

Most of the items seem to be from Kenya, or nearby in east Africa. The wooden carvings are typical of Kamba and Makonde tourist pieces. The little nesting wire and bead boxes are probably also made in Kenya, similar to these - https://basketsofafrica.com/african...-wire-baskets/set-of-3-oval-nesting-boxes-12/ - (although similar wire and bead articles are also made in South Africa).

The bottle covered with woven leather looks more like north or west African work. You can find similar examples online attributed to Morocco and Senegal (both have applicable leatherworking traditions).

I am not sure about the ladle. As Taupou says, pombe means beer in Swahili, which might place it in east Africa. The Maasai do decorative work on gourds, but the style of the ladle looks different - more eastern European than African. Is the white stitching on the gourd leather, or cordage?

Thank you very much for that. The white “stitching” appears to be tiny pieces of silver coloured metal.

I checked the "stitching" with a metal detector and it is definitely metal inlay. I can find nothing like it at all online at the moment.

    It might be aluminum wire.
