I picked these up from the lady with the market stall in Chorlton. I think the enamelled thing is a belt buckle as is the brass filigree thing? The dangly brooch thing perhaps a saree pin. It has Deposé stamped on it which is french. The other mark i am not sure of..The silver tone St Christopher is some kind of Catholic thingummy I think.. the GD stamped in it intrigued me.

Souvenir of Boulogne sur Mer. That other half belt buckle, the enamel one, looks like weed!

Nice Czech brooch is missing a flower I think, it’s between the wars.

the dangly thing is one of the French North African colonies and I’m wondering if it’s a Quran clasp.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking weed but the leaves aren't spiky enough. More like a horse chestnut? Although the red gold and green colour scheme is a bit Bob Marley too. The dangly did have a pin on it but has broken off so it's almost brooch like.

I think the religious medal shows Mary in a boat holding Jesus. There must be a legend associated with it.

I thought it was a St Christopher but it seems it's not.

St. Christopher always appears with a child riding piggyback or on his shoulder or some such.

Mary is the guardian of seamen and fisher folk, it refers to that. She’s guiding a boat home with angels.

It's a Wetherspoon's pub. They have a policy of using existing dilapidated buildings such as old disused cinemas, swimming baths etc and putting bars in them. They are often listed and as such a lot of the original fixtures and fittings are kept in place. Search for images of the Art Picture House in Bury. The inside is marvellous.

Could well be. Think it's a bit too old to be cannabis bling.

In the 7th century a statue of Mary was found near Boulogne sur Mer, and a church was built for "Our Lady of the Sea". As obb said, she is the patroness of those at sea. There is no legend connected to it, it is one of many titles of Mary, especially in Western Europe.
During the French Revolution the statue was burnt, the church became state property, and was later demolished.
In the early 19th century a new basilica was built. In one of the side chapels is a statue devoted to the destroyed "Our Lady of the Sea".
The basilica and the statue are on your medallion.

The basilica of "Notre Dame de Boulogne":

Muslim women in the Indian subcontinent usually don't wear sarees. They usually wear a 'shalwar kameez', a trouser and long wide shirt combination.
I have never seen a Quran with clasps the way bibles have clasps. They are usually kept and carried in special boxes, so they don't need clasps.
I don't see this as part of the Quran boxes I know, but it could have been a decorative part of a lectern, like the Turkish one below:

Ah, part of a minbar! That makes sense.

Yes, boringly, more likely horse chestnut than weed. ;)

Our Lady Star of the Sea and all that.

'spoons are known for sticky carpets.

Re: Wetherspoon pubs (& all corporate chain pubs)-on one hand, they do maintain listed buildings ,but sadly-many of the beers & ales are generic.
We visited the 1713 'Saracens Head' in Bath.I think a few timbers had been preserved, but the whole joint felt pretty antiseptic .It'd been bought by Greene King Plc- largest pub company in the UK.
Nice that these buildings still exist, but they're kind of like a Tussaud's veneer over a McDonald's.

Catholicism stole most of its beliefs!

I’m not a ‘spoons fan. Greene King used to be ok, but they’ve gone all accountant.

I do like Ember Inns as a chain. They somehow manage to be corporate owned, yet have a local feel and the staff are lovely. I managed to actually get a pub lunch last week. Calamari then fish and chips with proper tartare sauce, my companion had home made soup, fish cakes and a pudding so huge that we shared it. Thirty quid for two and we waddled out. They served my fancy tonic water in a really nice glass with sliced strawberries too. And the manageress hugged me.

The local staff (& manager) can make a huge difference in even the tightest corporate structure.Sounds like the Embers folks were lovely & 30 quid sounds great these days.
We've pretty much given-up on being shocked on current eating out prices.

True. It is just one of many Asian beliefs, it just got huge, when most others didn't.

It also stole from European beliefs. And many churches and chapels were built on pre-Christian religious sites, often sacred sites and temples for European Goddesses.
