1stDibs pricing question

Let's say, for example, this brooch:

I found the same one elsewhere for £72 and I still find it expensive!

Dunno if you're a seller or a buyer but... I personally use eBay as a gauge. Start with Completed listings to see how many of the item have been on offer. Then go to Sold listings and see how many found buyers. That will also give you an idea of where collector interest lies and market value. Then go to Active listings and see how many of the current item are on offer and their asking prices. You may also be able to capture similar items on offer on other sites by doing a Google Images search. 1stDibs can be helpful for identification purposes but the asking prices are -- how shall I say this tactfully? -- a joke.

That's not a secure web site. And it seems to link through directly to eBay. Also, given the site is not affiliated with eBay, it certainly uses a lot of eBay imagery and branding.

Ebay is the guide EVERYONE uses these days. Wich is why you go into shops and they have 2002 prices on stuff where the bottom fell out of the market. They just cruise for the highest possible amount.

 

1st Dibs is the Land of Magical Thinking when it comes to prices.

 

I think of it as the "What the h***, might as well give it a try. Maybe there's a punter out there who'll..."
