Featured Diamond & emerald ring....old or repro?

Good morning, joolies! Found this one in my stash and was wondering if it's old or just wants to look like it is. It's marked 18k, but has no other hallmarks.

 

Whew how come I don't "find" this stuff in my stashes??

Looks like legit Art Deco to me. There are look-alikes that come out of India but they're not usually something as high as 18k. They're usually 925. The font of the hallmark sometimes helps too. The K is usually wider. It's a really pretty piece! I love this style.

 

It's a very becoming style. Elongates the finger.

That's great news! I never know what's hiding in the dark recesses of the jewelry stash. Occasionally, I do whole house buy-outs without going through everything first. It's like Christmas when I finally get around to sorting through the little stuff.

Ditto.
Most cast copies/fakes of Art Deco jewellery are made in China. It is worth having the gold content tested.

 

Ugghhh. I'll take some more pics when I get back home. The diamond and acid tests were good.

Were these not made through casting in the era?

The sides look like they have cut embellishments.

 

Hard to date without maker's marks,it took years for casting to take over the process. During the war effort of WW2 casting evolved much more then pre-war. The top photo in post #6 also appears to have been cast.

That weird yellow/goldish color is reflection from the lights. It's not there in person.

 

There's a second area past the 18K mark that looks like another mark...but is that just a reflection?

If it's testing at 18K, I think it's the real deal.

 

Probably so, or a really good 80s copy. The modern ones are all rhodium-plated sterling with fake stones. There was a craze for a while in the 80s for Deco Revival, and I wouldn't call it impossible that some jeweler somewhere made new pieces in the old style. If the stones are modern brilliants that would seal the deal.

 

The modern round brilliant design was invented in 1919.

 

The ones I can recognize from then (and some bought at the time ha) are usually marcasites and silver, with big chunky milgrain and glued stones. Some marked THAI as the source. Did we get stuff that looked like this in the 80s?
