Recently my uncle asked if I could sell two TV stands for him. Neither of us had any idea what they were worth so I posted them to FaceBook Marketplace for $300 & $100. The next day I had hundreds of inquiries. One guy was literally begging me to sell to them to him because his sick grandmother used to have a pair just like it and she would be so happy to have it again. I had more offers to immediately stop by with cash than I could deal with. I decided to take them down because they are obviously worth significantly more than I was asking. I would like to get the best price for my uncle but I'm not sure what to ask or how to describe them. I think they are made by Danish by Design and they do have some damage. The one with drawers has scratches on the top and water damage / swelling to the bottom board and side board at one end. The one with glass doors has sun damage at one end. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    The one with drawers is 79L x 20W x 32H (inches)
    The one with glass doors is 79L x 16W x 26H (inches)

If you call them "credenzas" instead of TV stands, you should get more interest I would think.

I haven't heard the word credenzas in years. That is what my grandmother called a similar cabinet.

I think the last time I heard "credenza" was on a show called Love Sidney WAY back in the late 70s early 80s. I just bet you had 100s of inquiries. Yank those ads down and triple the price. They will sell.

When I was still working and had my own office rather than a cubicle, a credenza always provided great storage. That was 2002.

Thanks for all of the information! Does anyone know difficult would it be to have these restored?

swelling is an issue......fading and scratches....less so....

DIY.......search you tube.....or if someone professional in your area ....seek them out.....
but.........I don't think the time or cost will garner you hundreds more in value..;)

Depending on where OP is located,it could make a great deal of difference. Id drop some bucks to restore them, and tack it on to the sale price! Ive seen crappy laminate mcm stuff with outrageous prices, and they sell.Something like this, its in another level. Never underestimate the mcm fanatics.

They're amazing! One of them looks like rosewood. There's a similar Danish modern rosewood credenza listed on Etsy for $12,500 by Niels O Moller. Depending on where you live, it may be difficult to find someone qualified to do a professional restoration. Even as-is, people will pay a lot more than you may think.

First of all, slow WAY down. Congratulate yourself for taking them off the market without selling. Now take the time to do some research. These will sell for a much higher price after you know what you have. As for the “buyer” who wanted them for his “sick grandmother”, DO NOT under any circumstances sell to him because he is a sleazy picker/dealer hoping to get these for chump change so he can immediately re-sell them - he does not have a grandmother and if he did does she would have disowned him years ago for being such a slimeball.

The repairs on these are minor. The scratching can by fixed invisibly by you in about ten minutes. Sun damage is also easily fixed by you. The swelling is harder to fix, but still not a major repair. Unfortunately a fair amount of high-end danish furniture was made with particle board = this is by no means a sign that this is low-end stuff. The first piece made with rosewood veneer is in amazingly good condition except for the one corner of swelling. The working tambour fronts and rosewood point to really high end work. A competent cabinetmaker can easily pull back the veneer then trim the particle board so the veneer will reattach and be impossible to see.

Don’t know where you got the name Danish by Design, but this is almost certainly wrong. If anything that could be a retailer name, not a Designer or Maker. Examine both pieces closely for a mark inside or on the back, maybe underneath. Knowing the name of the designers will greatly increase value of both pieces. Send pics to Wright Auctions in Chicago if you can’t find a name, they can probably name them based on pics. Or give time for others here to research, @mark737 may know off the top of his head.

Remember, slow down, do not be in a rush to sell.

The designer is Peter Lovig Nielson. It is a 1971 rosewood credenza with matching hutch and is quite valuable. Somewhere in the $12,000 - $15,000 range. We are obviously very happy and thankful for everyone's help. Right now we are trying to decide the best way to go about selling it. Would a consignment shop be a good idea?

Both refinished....so my 1st thoughts bear revisiting....& both at 30% off price....so maybe not saleable at those valuations without the hutch....??

    called a floating hutch...

maybe the teak is a lesser model???
    funny......same photo's.......( I wonder about Etsy..?)

    and...

1stdobs, with a Canadian $ sold price of 7,500............... still beats your couple of hundred bucks by a mile......but lower than your new anticipated values.

Maybe see if a local auction company uses liveauctioneers.com. You can search their "Auction House Directory" to see if there are any in your area.
I don't know if they start all bidding low, but they currently have 6 Peter Lovig Nielson pieces and 5 are still at what looks like the opening bid of $10 (one is at $12).

In the "Price Results" section there are several Peter Lovig Nielson pieces that sold, but you'd have to sign up to see the sold prices (I don't have an account).

Hibid.com is another option, but they don't have any open or closed Peter Lovig Nielson listings.
