Featured Mystery Antique Tankard

    This appears to be a large (6” tall, 6 inches across the bottom, weight 2 lbs.) tankard of some sort. Looks to be copper, it appears to have hand carved fish, rabbits, and flower decorations.

    Any Clues where or when this came from?

    Middle Eastern? Persia, perhaps?

    The designs were chased not carved.

    Just a guess, but I think UK and very old going by how much tinning has gone.

    I love it Rick, and it has a respectable age. Could be ca 1800, or even older.
    I'm with whit, Middle Eastern. Could also be Ottoman Turkish or Ottoman occupied regions.
    Palestine used a lot of fish imagery, and I've seen similar top rims on Ottoman tankards. The wide base is also a feature of tankards from the general region.

    Funnily enough, I thought British too, the salmon and hare thing.

    That thing is enormous! Gotta hold a quart an' a half, easy. Could it be anything other than a drinking vessel? Hard to imagine what else, but...
