Delightful 1950’s (WAG) enamel plaque. I thought this would be an easy research as it even has the original label still attached but no! 5.5” x4” The label says Made in West Germany Jansen Original Erzeugnis (product) Handgemalt (Hand Painted) Metallwaren PKJ (rearrange letters to suit) Nr 918 web (?) I thought Jansen (seller? maker?)would be an easy find but I’ve drawn an absolute blank so I’m obviously not looking in the right place or it’s looking me in the eye and I can’t see it. Any help very welcome please. Thankyou
It is charming, K. And horsies, so made for you. Weiß, white, the background colour. I assume they were made in different colours. The ß is often substituted with ss, in this case weiss. Looks like it. The location, close to the Dutch border, also makes sense, since Jansen is a Dutch name. P K on either side of the J, could be for Paul (father) and Katharina (daughter). Katharina took over after her father's death in 1977, but she had already been working in the business for a few years. If this line of thinking is correct, the plaque dates from the 1970s at the earliest.

One of the most common Dutch names. I think it comes second, after de Vries. Jansen is also often used in gest when you can't remember someone's name, like 'what's his name'.
We have easily remembered names for people in the village such as- Mr Chicken Man The Troll at No 46 (long story) Wednesday (Addams) Screaming Children House Shouty dog people Mrs Chihuahua and several that are not shareable!
My neighbours include cheffy man, who is lovely, and has a Lebanese restaurant. And Tall Paul. Guess why. Another neighbour refers to a rather … interesting… older couple as The Welsh. They’re actually Irish. Don’t ask.
