    I got this several years ago - I don't think it's ever been used. I'm guessing 1940s, 50s?
I haven't used it either - I have so many decorations, and I always want more, but I haven't found a place for this. That doesn't mean I don't think it's awesome though.
Ds#2's girlfriend declined to put it in her store - she doesn't think anyone will buy it. HAH!
What do you think? Hideously ugly or not?

I'm afraid I'm of the "hideously ugly" opinion!
And it looks more 1960s/70s to me but WDIK.

I don't think it is hideous, but it looks like it needs more work.

Isn't angel hair made of fiberglass and contains asbestos?

I think it is unusual. I believe that I would have put different types of little angels, the trumpets, rainbows maybe some other heavenly items like harps on the wreath it would have been beautiful. The beholder thought this was beautiful so I guess it must be.

Is that the original box? If so, may we see photographs of it?

It would seem so. The 'proper' stuff was anyway.

What I find disturbing are the elf heads - as if their bodies were sucked down into a white whirlpool.

    It's fiberglass - no asbestos.

And the evil snowman at six o clock riding round in his whirlpool of doom. 'Elves for dinner again, wheeee'.

I found a website that said they contained both but it may well be inaccurate.

Thank you for the additional photographs. Too fascinating. The box manufacturer is still in business and could probably date the box for you. From the deep burgundy and green, argyle pattern and Big Band instruments, I'd guess wreath to be 1940s into the 1950s but I could be wrong.

You're right. There is something malevolent in his look!

Standard Santa Claus heads and Snowmen from the 1940s. They always have those little berry shaped ceramic or compoisition noses that crumble after a while.
