    Hello all. I recently purchased this pair of chairs locally. Any ideas on the age or possible maker of these? Love these chairs and they were a steal.

    Carved walnut probably, and it looks like somebody took care of them.

    The Victorians would have preferred a garnet velvet over anything cream, but 30 years ago the cream looked "the business". Not sure how long ago they were redone.

    From the colorway, I'd think 1960s into the 1970s. Excellent condition.

    Often referred to as 'carved', but really predominately machine template work, set aside the incised flourishes, spoon carved detail work. I think the 1860s-90s walnut is a bit under appreciated, but nice examples like this are very nice IMO.
