Hi, I have a casted sculpture of some sort of an animal and it looks like it's made of silver. Not magnetic and ice melts very quick when layed on top. Does anybody have any idea of the age and what it is, like from what country/continent for example? Maybe a depicition of some kind of god? Weight 2,2 kg, length and height around 20 cm.

    Kind regards Jim

It is Indian, after a historic example.
I can't remember the details right now, but someone else will find it with these clues.

    Thanks!!
I've found it at a flea market in Europe. It's solid. No marks or stampings as far as I can see. And here are some more pics.

I think it's probably African, from Benin, made by an Edo artist. I've found something in a very similar style but this one is in bronze.

You're right, I thought during a near sleepless night that it was probably Benin, sorry about that.

(Not sleepless about your sculpture, but about something entirely different, Dutch politics. I prefer your sculpture.;))

Yeah Dutch politics, it's terrible, who would have thought, everyone I know including me is upset about the PVV being the biggest now..

    It was a blow.
There is some solace in the fact that Wilders has modified his tone a lot, and that he does have some good views on social and healthcare issues. Those two facts probably got him this landslide victory. I did see poll results go up when he abandoned his anti-Islam stance.

Besides, in Dutch politics you always need other parties to form a coalition, so he can't rule on his own. The new coalition will probably include Pieter Omtzigt's new party, and I'm sure Omtzigt will keep Wilders in check.

    Here's hoping....

Probably this century. It is a replica, so the exact age isn't very important. It is more about the style and attractiveness of the piece.

I am puzzled by this one. You don't usually see white metal used in West Africa, although it might be a modern use of scrap aluminum. Does it seem light for its size?

To me, the style does not really look like it is based on the Benin tradition.

The way the coat is depicted does seem to be related to the example you found of the brass lion with the animal in its mouth, in which case your piece may be from Ghana, rather than Nigeria/Benin. Here is a similar one (in a museum in New Zealand), documented as having been collected in Ghana -
