Japanese censer?

    Hello

    i bought this in a charity shop, i think its a Japanese demon face incense burner. Measures 8.5cm x 8.5cm

    It is an ashtray.
    If you google 'brass devil ashtray' you will find many like it.

    It could possibly be inspired by a Japanese Oni, a demon-like mythical being. I don't know of any Oni with globular protrusions on its head instead of horns.

    I have this same one around somewhere. Never took it to be Grecian in origin but that marked example doesn't lie. Imagine they were also made elsewhere since it is such an interesting design.
