African masks

    Picked these three up. The tooling in the back of them is very similar so I reckon they were created in the same place. What sort of tool would make such marks? The twisting of a chisel or some kind of black and decker power tool? :bored:

    My partner who has experience making woodblock prints says it is a decorative technique made by rocking-walking a flat chisel.

    The style of the second pair of masks is very characteristic of masks made for the tourist market in Kenya. I have never seen one like the first mask.

    Okay thank you. At least it's not made with power tools.
