    Hi,
I have six of these spoons.
They have marks on the back, are they silver or silverplate.
I thought they were Scottish silver marks,
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks. spoon.jpg spoon marks.jpg spoon marks.jpg

They are Scottish, but not marked by either the Glasgow or Edinburgh assay offices. This is a Dumfries mark and I am pretty sure that the damaged maker's mark is AB for Adam Burgess who was working between 1834 and 1849. Note that the mark is not a hallmark as it was applied by the silversmith himself. However the local Guild of Hammermen would have kept a close eye on the silver standards of their members so it is almost certainly sterling.

Tell your husband you have takers for any silver bits he wants to pitch! Just tell us when to get our gloves up.

Husbands are noted for saying any variation of:
“What do you want that for?!?!”

A friend and I were set up at the local flea, she carries woodenware, books and baskets. A couple came up and the wife said “I’ll take this basket.” Her husband said “You don’t need that.” She said “I haven’t needed anything for 40 years, I want it!” :D:D:D:D:D:D

once , a gentleman was about to purchase a beautiful wall carving from me, when the wife walked in and stated " you're not going to hang that thing in my house !!"

I guess it goes both ways !!:p

First thing my mom did after dad died was get rid of all of his train prints.(LOL) I saw a Canadian Pacific print in an estate sale and had to restrain myself! Rail nut's daughter instincts die hard.
