Thanks for commenting Debora. I was considering that. Yes,a little sticker with the number 11843.I was thinking inventory number but that’s a pretty big number. Maybe a job card no or Invoice number of the framers.

Thanks Debora! A 12 then 5 makes not a whole lot more sense to me. Perhaps a series? The archive is for a photographer who took photo portraits of famous artists. The R of the monogram and R of Tischer look like the same hand to me, so not a later notation I think.

Yes, I know what the archive is. I posted a link to their web site. They are still operating and working on digitalizing their holdings. Contact them; it they're helpful, they should be able to identify your artist.

"12" and "5" may well be a date. May 12th most likely or December 5 also possible.

Seems like a competant artist but doesn't seem professional. Is it on the textured side of masonite? I see that some in paintings from the 50s-60s. Not sure why it was chosen as a substrait but find it distracting. Have never seen it used this way by a professinal.

Thanks @verybrad,great comment and observation. It is indeed painted on the textured side of the board (I completely missed that, never even crossed my mind!) Well that’s interesting. So maybe 50-60’s or so. Thanks again

I was given some amateur art and posters. These are the only ones I like. I like the colours used in the painting (not sure which way is up?) Maybe it shows a fire? I like the blue on the bottom (water?) I also like these 2 drawings.

Can't beat free. Think the first is a semi-abstract landscape. Like the first orientation the best, as the blue would be sky.

Here is a nice vintage oil on canvas of
Diamond Head, signed Tom Wong. Size with frame ,15x18"
(Painted before more hotels were built to the left, which ruined this fabulous view that we see here.)
From a thrift store. $3.00...how could I resist?

Still I really like it (and I will never have the money to spend on the original :)) Can’t find anything on this MG van Wyk.

Nice copy and good that it is stated as such on the back.

I am finding a few other paintings by your artist but no real information about him. There is a Tom Wong artist on facebook that is not a match. Vintage Hawaiian art always seems to do pretty well. Think it is a good thrift store find.

Having been to Hawaii more than a few times, I was instantly attracted to it. I love the mid century vibe.
We once had it hanging in the "Hawaiian Guest Bathroom", where all our thrift store Hawaiiana was on display!

This small oil turned up last week in a charity thrift attached to a food bank. The thought it was a print but...nope. At least I don't think it is - the varnish looks like it was hand-applied with a brush if nothing else. $3 Signed W Pater. DSCF9693.JPG

It's a lovely image at least. Would need more pictures to say for sure. They do make prints, often on canvas, that have a brush applied top coat.
