Hiii all, can't wait to get back here and post my bits and pieces. The team I coach are playing in the global champs this weekend and so its been all hands on deck since I got back from the states. Busy busy!

However! I had to come here and share this listing I was following. What am I missing that these 3 vintage/antique pairs earrings that are missing major stones would go for that kind of price? Did someone see something I didn't? Cause this is an insane result...
I don't see any precious metals except probably silver in that brooch setting...I thought the stones were glass, but pairs 1 and 3 look like they might be real stones? They're not in great condition and will need fairly hefty repair. They seem to be 1870s-AD to my eye...
Looking at the bidding history its even crazier lol

The part that joins the earrings is marked brevete promis mecan or something similar, and searching that name turns up some nice pieces at big prices.

Those were some nice earrings. I bet the European contingent knows what they are, besides O-L-D.

It's not a name; it's something like patent applied for.

Ah. Found a site that states: "Inscription content: French mixed metals mark PROMIS MECAN BREVETE"

Ditto, once very beautiful, and hopefully bought by someone who can restore them to their former beauty.
Adding old style hooks won't be that much of a job, for the right person with the right equipment. But it will be difficult to find the right antique Brazilian or possibly Colombian emeralds for those bezels.
If a buyer is able to do all that, it is certainly worth the money.
Wel spotted, but that is the patent for the current fittings, which are a later addition (read: screw up:inpain:).

Well the more you know! I adore earrings, they're definitely my accessory of choice, but I don't know much about them or how to identify the old ones! I got into brooches because that was the thing that had the most identification resources online.

The listing says they're gold plated according to their jeweler, but that link seems to disagree! I could have sworn the emerald ones were Deco with those geometric shapes.

Any tips on books or anything I might put on the Christmas list? My birthday is also in January so my mother could use all the help she can get :hilarious:
