Well, I think I found a real score for $28. I hope you do too.

These all have marks and are identifiable.

(The gravy boat and tray are marked H131 and sterling. One online seller says "Ellmore"? They have engraved initials: MMN.

The other pair says Preisner 717 Sterling.

And the larger tray (10.5" wide) says Cohr 830.)

I don't have a ton of questions except, What do you recommend as the best way to re-sell these?

    Thank you!!

Hold out for silver to go higher. It won't be long.

Forgive my ignorance... if there's close to 800 g of Sterling, and scrap buyers pay half of the current $0.65 / gram ...

    770 x .65 = $500 / 2 = $250.

    Am I doing that wrong?

The monogram does not help to sell it.

Alas, dents and monograms in the current market devalue silver. You've got some nice scrap weight though. Silver prices haven't really kept up with inflation, unlike gold, so the play might be buy and hold if you paid close to melt.

You sure 'bout that? I'll take your forecast as encouragement in a market that has had my bowels in an uproar for some time now. If you've got any pull with the Masters of the Universe, or the fellows in the Plunge Protection Team, please work yer Magic, eh?

Gee, I can get a lot more than half of spot here...more like ~75-80%. Or at least I could a couple years ago...haven't had the urge to sell in awhile. I'm waiting for ~$30/oz...an' sooner than later.
Seems it all was acquired for $28...that amounts to legal theft!

Somebody at the antique mall told me that they average about 60% spot price when selling odds and ends, so I was just estimating.

But I will def shop around.

    I
I can get 70%-80% here. I always weigh and calculate scrap value the day I go, if they low ball me I either negotiate a higher offer or take it to someone else.

Well bought! Bravo! List it all as a lot on eBay at like 10-20% higher than current melt. Include the word “scrap” in your listing but note in the description that it’s all in decent useable condition. I just did this with a mixed lot of relatively undesirable sterling and was surprised at how quickly it sold. After fees you’ll still do better than selling it to a silver melter probably. Assuming my tactic works for you that is.

My scrap dealer pays 90% for silver and 95% for gold. Look around for a refinery near your home. Also, MOST refineries require you to mail your goods to them. When I wanted to dump 30 pounds of silver a few months back, this dealer allowed a personal visit.

Most "we buy gold" places usually pay 40-50%.

My local pawn only pays 50-60%, but they pay cash on the spot. If my buy price is low enough, the fact that I'm paid cash on the spot and no shipping or shippers involved makes it a decent deal. Especially when the alternative is selling on Feebay and giving THEM about 30%-40% of the cut. (and then having the Government horn in on the action, or try to.)

JMHO, but if they are paying 50%-60% you need to find someone else! There is no one else local you can go to?
