That's just ...weird. Generally a piece made that late will be marked for metal content. Some artisan pieces aren't, at least legibly, but mass produced or molded ones are.

Filed pieces are generally just scrap metal. Even if we'd buy them, potential buyers of OURS often will not. That said, we all need a friendly jeweler! All of my local indie jewelry stores are gone except one high end place. Costs so much to park there, IF you can park there, that it's not worth the effort.

 

Mine are young jewelry making grads of the local prestigious art school so they know about technique but little about history. My relatively inexpensive baubles thrill them. They do small repairs for me. They've started carrying more vintage and antique pieces since we've become friends. They are in our downtown area, as most the independent jewelers are, where many find it difficult to park and pay. I've been here long enough parallel parking is a breeze and I know where the free parking is. I walk the rest of the way.

 

I don't parallel part too well, and walk even worse. Walking any distance is out of the question. I have in the past helped out the local art school, but they don't do jewelrymaking there. Darnit.

 

Aww! I did (half) joke with the husband that if this strike is still on going into the next quarter, that I was signing up for jewelry making at said college, as it's free for me. It's probably the most expensive class list there though. On the other hand, the supplies are available in town. My sister took a class at her art center in a different state and made some lovely things with silver and stones and I'm jealous.

My city did implement a free shuttle that runs through the free parking areas to the not-so-free ones. They also have a city-run free uber-like car service complete with an app. I like the walking, but it's good to have options for all types.

 

I took a PMC class in the next town over. The class itself wasn't expensive, but the class materials were NOT cheap. That said I'd do it again, even if I have to buy another blow-dryer. Not sure if I still have one.
