Here's a modern figure. The pamphlet reads that the company's talleres have been operating for over 50 years. (The seller has misidentified the figure as Woody Allen which it clearly is not.)

Agree if you mean providing skilled artisans with work. Can't be too many opportunities for carvers these days.

Such a shame. It's an amazing art. But the time and skill involved make it an expensive art to buy, where the artist has a living wage. Usually means carved art is mostly from countries where they can get the better of an exchange rate. I stick to clay....more forgiving tools for my fingers.
