Quite a bit to show from yesterday's trip to our largest local thrift store. Besides what I am showing, there were a few items that I thought overpriced. They may make a future cut if they don't get sold and come down in price.

I don't usually mess with showing platform rockers unless dirt cheap. At $30.00, this doesn't fit the bill. However, the original finish and carpet upholstery make this one worth showing.

This cedar chest is really in good condition, without any missing veneer. At $40.00, it is right where someone could still make some profit on it.
    thriftchest9.jpg

This sewing machine was already sold. The $25.00 price tag helped it fly out the door.

These tables are worth showing for a couple reasons. The rattan legged table on the left was only $10.00. Not crazy about the formica top but those legs! The wicker table had the price removed, as someone had pulled the tag and may have been in the process of purchasing. It is worth showing due to being old and in original good condition.

This mahogany drum table was in good condition and only $15.00.

This was the bargain of the day. At only $45.00, this is a solid walnut antique. The missing piece of wood at the lower left was inside one of the drawers. How come this type of chest is missing the mirror 95% of the time?

They get turned into wire or plastic coat hangers? (innocent face) That's where socks go.

There were a minority of these walnut chests that were sold without mirrors. The usual clue is that there is a thin piece of walnut between the two glove boxes.

Interesting to see the original upholstery on the rocker.

Brad where do you live because the thrift around here only gives me particle board and sadness. :grumpy:

Believe me, I see a lot of stuff that leaves me sad :sour: .... Mostly at the Goodwill. I am in central IL and the furniture mostly ends up at our Habitat for Humanity Re-Store or a large local charitible thrift with 2 locations. The latter has the best bargains and is the source of the furniture in this most recent post.

It's what I don't see that makes me sad. I know they got a donation of something good, but all of the good stuff went out the back door. Most goes on line, but I have to wonder. Honestly wonder.

Guess I'll have to expand my territory! The Restore here had outrageous prices last I looked but that was years ago.

I poke through my local GW online listings occasionally and they are....terrible. I found a $400 brand new purse and $500 coat last couple of weeks, but their online listings are broken toys and kids clothes bag lots. They stopped allowing local pickup so I don't know what they'd even do with furniture. The hub store where they take pictures is in new suburbia so they have no nice furniture and I don't think they'd bother bringing the "good stuff" from the city an hour away.

The staff is also not allowed to buy anything from the store they work at. I knew that, but once overheard a new hire tell their boss they were so excited to work there because they always saw such cool stuff in that store. Boss replied, "Congratulations, you can't buy anything here anymore.":hilarious:

They can't, but if the manager has a "thing" going with a few dealers.... That may not be allowed either, but I know it happened. One "manager" at the local ReStore would price some things cheap and buy them for herself. She's no longer there. They do send some of the really nice stuff that comes in to the other local store. It's newer. Really good art goes out to a real auction house. Fine jewelery too, not they get much of even pedestrian costume.

Only thing to show right now is this set of 4 T-back chairs. Only $15.00 for the set and they have been sitting for over a week now. Spied them last week but didn't think them worthy of photographing. Didn't realize they were so cheap so, that alone, makes them worthy IMHO. Really nothing wrong with them other than aged original finish and upholstery. The fact that dealers have not snatched them up is telling. Just shows how bad the market is for this stuff here.

Those look like the chairs from my granparents' dining room set. They probably need regluing in addition to everything else, so no dealer would want them. Too much work for too little reward.

More to show from the same thrift store.

This pair of French chairs was priced at $15.00 each. Seem to be very good quality with feather/down stuffed cushion. Upholstery has no tears or major stains but could use a good cleaning.
    thriftchair18.jpg

Interesting $5.00 rocker. Thought the styling secessionist, which you just don't see here. Someone seemed to care for it at some point, as it has been recaned.
    thriftrocker7.jpg

Not antique but too cool not to show. Big enough for two. Priced at $170.00, I thought a bit pricey, but what do I know? It flew out the door. The formica topped table in the background was sold so I don't have a price.
    thriftlounge.jpg

Don't see many Roman chairs and this one is pretty beat up. Maybe overpriced at $15.00.
    thriftchair19.jpg

I gave this one some serious consideration but did not buy. Priced $30.00. All original with glass ball and brass claw feet. Hard to see the nice figured oak under the dark finish but this would be an easy refinish job.

Only thing to show this time is this oak table and chair set. Wasn't sure the chairs were old but, after a close look, decided they were. They have been nicely refinished. Nice that the table has the 3 leaves. $119.00 for the set. thriftset3.jpg
