Featured Painting ID

Hello - my mom had this painting for years & when she passed, I claimed it as I always liked it. I wish I had asked her where she got it or if she knew anything about it before she passed, but didn't. So, posting here in case anyone has an idea and/or how I can find out more. Its 12 x 15, painted on wood. Absolutely no markings on the back. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What a sweet little fellow.I think print as well,I dont see any brushstrokes. That frame is awesome too.

Hi Cathy T. Frame is Art Deco 1919-1939 period,or in that style.Very hard to judge if actually from the period or later repro in that style.Looks like someone applied a coat of varnish or something similar to it at some time,and they also painted a brown rim around the edge of the painting.This would make one suspicious is it just to cover up original paint loss ,or to try to make the frame appear older and from that period.If as you say your mother had it for a long time,then one would have to say that it is actually from Art Deco period.

His clothing is unusual. I think what he's wearing is a romper. And that high waist and open collar evokes -- to my eye -- fashion of the 1910s. Would be curious as to what others think.

Although most people seem to disagree with the idea that the painting frame is Art Deco,this seems to suggest "IMO" that it might be.Also the use of Turquoise stones in the frame ,which were commonly used by the Art Noveau movement craftsmen.The painting and frame appear to have examples of both Art Noveau/Art Deco incorporated into it,so I'll say it's somewhere around 1920s.

 

Looks like he is holding forget-me-nots.

 

Maybe it's a hand painted print? Nicely hand painted, if so. Cute!
