I have a small ornate table with drawers. There is a signature inside one drawer. Can anyone help identify the furniture maker based on the signature?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, Tim! Are you having trouble posting photographs? If so, someone will be along shortly with instructions.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I think to start we'd need an image of the table, showing it from several angles, including the underside plus the drawers, both open and closed, where it came from, and any history you may know about it! WELCOME to ANTIQUERS, @Tim555!! In case you're not familiar with posting on our site, here's some general information to help........

For Future reference, when posting images:

Each image MUST be UNDER 1 MB....
There are instructions on site here on how to reduce the size of your image, if you are having a problem posting them......you are allowed up to 10 images per post!!! Here are some links to the instructions:

Try emailing them to yourself as "medium" size, they should then be under 1 MB!

    If on the computer:

    If on an iPhone:

And if on an Android phone:

As an added note, when you have your photos LISTED, BUT BEFORE you hit POST, please click on the wording that says to "INSERT EVERY IMAGE AS FULL IMAGE" !! That way, we're not clicking on little thumbnails, but get to see all of the images full sized!! Thanks! Remember, it takes a bit for MOST new members to get the hang of it, but it's really quite simple once you get used to it!!!" AND don't hesitate to ask if having a problem!!!

Nearly forgot!!!! Here's your image: Looks like French to me, but others
    will be along to help..........

The little boy? No idea how that would relate to furniture.

Petit is also a surname, but as far as I know 'le petit' usually refers to something small.
The little or small one. The little boy is 'le petit garçon'.

Would/could you post photographs of the piece itself?

Gorgeous little piece. Historic Revival, late 19th-early 20th century, imo, but let's wait for the others.

While I'm not going to be much help, I'll ask the question in case it helps someone else.

You say it is small. How small is small?

"c'est le petit", it is the little one.:) Maybe there was a bigger one too.

Quite the piece. Guess it would be a sewing stand. I am thinking sometime the last quarter of the 19th century and, indeed, a revival piece of sorts. Wood looks like it could be elm.

Small size, big design. I agree that it's some sort of sewing cabinet, but it could be used now to hold whatever you can fit into the drawers. Great to corral chargers and remotes and such.

Petit is actually a fairly common surname here; a pile of French Canadians exported themselves to Connecticut years ago.

Same here. For instance, our local bell foundry is Petit & Fritsen, known worldwide as excellent bell makers since 1660.

Y'all got some French exports too then. :D:D (or maybe just one guy who had a bunch of kids!)

We've got a lot, including some of my ancestors.

Most French immigrants came during the early days of the Republic, the 16th-17th century, when half of Europe flocked to the Netherlands (half is a slight exaggeration:D). They came either as religious refugees (Huguenots), or for financial reasons. Most VOC (Dutch East India Company) employees were non-Dutch, for instance.
And France had many skilled craftspeople, but not always enough work. The Dutch Republic was filthy rich, and they needed people who could do a good job.
The Dutch Republic also had religious freedom (of sorts).

Over 90% of present day Dutch has some degree of foreign ancestry. I seem to remember it is 96%, but that is only taking into account records after 1600. If you go back far enough we are all immigrants.;)

Kind of like Americans (mostly), only earlier.

Yes, a similar influx of people, often for the same reasons as in North America.
